How do I know when my piano needs tuning? If you can hear variations in the sound of each note. When the piano is in tune, you should hear only one tone for each note. If you have not had your piano tuned in over a year, it will need tuning. No piano will stay in tune over a year due to climate changes within the home. Especially during the cooler seasons when some people open their windows to allow fresh air into the home. Even though is feels nice and saves money on electricity, open windows also allow humidity to build up to dangerous levels in the piano. Home builders and owners now are installing humidifiers on their HVAC systems. It helps you breath better, but damages your piano. This causes the keys to stick and makes the action sluggish. Major damage can occur to the piano if humidity is present for long periods of time.

What causes my piano to go out of tune? Fluctuations in humidity levels cause a piano to go out of tune. Most piano manufacturers agree that the ideal climate for pianos is 42% relative humidity.

If I move my piano, shouldn't I have it tuned again? Not necessarily. If you store your piano for long periods of time in an area not climate controlled, then chances are it will need tuning after the move  But moving the piano from room to room or down the street or across town normally will not hurt the piano or cause it to go out of tune.

Why is it important to keep my piano tuned? Frequent and proper maintenance is the key to protecting your investment. Regular tunings enable a piano technician to inspect the piano for other problems that may be occurring and offer a recommendation to solve the problem before major damage occurs.

My keys are sticking. What is causing this problem and how can it be repaired? Sticking keys can be caused by many things. Loose screws, objects fallen into the action, i.e. coins, paper, pencils etc. Mostly by the buildup of moisture in the piano action compartment. Installing a Piano Climate Control System is the best solution to protecting the piano from the elements.

How long does it take to tune my piano? Normally, it takes approximately one hour if the piano has been maintained at the least on an annual basis. If the piano has not been tuned in many years, then more than one tuning may be necessary.

How does a Piano Climate Control System help my piano?  Piano Climate Control Systems maintain a relative humidity of 42-45%. This protects your investment from major damage by excessive humidity or excessive dryness. It also allows your piano to stay tuned longer.

How much is my piano worth? Many factors come in to play regarding the value of your piano. It is recommended that you hire a piano technician who is qualified to appraise your investment. Piano technicians have the knowledge and experience to determine the true market value of your piano.
